PA DCNR, Keystone State Park, New Park Office

Designed for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the new 5,000-square-foot Keystone State Park Office will replace the park’s existing office and contact station with a single, modern facility that accommodates both functions under one roof.

The project is designed to achieve LEED Certification and features a photovoltaic (PV) array sized to achieve net-zero energy performance for the new office. After evaluating multiple potential sites, Inscale Architects selected a location that provides an ideal visitor approach and seamless connection to the campground road—while strategically avoiding existing underground utilities that constrained available buildable area.

Sustainability and efficiency are central to the design. The building incorporates a compact floor plan with minimized corridor space, high-efficiency HVAC equipment, and a thermal envelope performing 31% better than code requirements. Together with the PV system, these strategies will offset the energy use of both the new office and the nearby pavilion across Stone Lodge Road.
