For the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Inscale Architects designed a new 5,000-square-foot park office to replace the existing administrative and comfort station facilities at Hills Creek State Park. The new building will consolidate both functions under one roof, improving efficiency and visitor experience.
Targeting LEED Certification, the project features a photovoltaic (PV) array designed to achieve net-zero energy performance. Following a thorough evaluation of multiple potential sites, the chosen location provides an ideal visitor approach and connection to the park road and adjacent picnic pavilion, while respecting the park’s natural setting.
The design emphasizes sustainability and efficient use of space through a compact floor plan, high-efficiency HVAC systems, and a thermal envelope performing 31% better than code requirements. The integrated PV array will offset the building’s total energy consumption, supporting the Commonwealth’s commitment to sustainable park facilities.
