Located in historic Warren, Pennsylvania, Twig & Vine is a sophisticated adaptive reuse project that transforms an 18th-century mercantile building into a dynamic blend of wine bar, whiskey speakeasy, and modern residential living. Inscale Architects preserved the character of the original masonry bearing walls while reshaping the building to support new, contemporary uses.
The main level showcases high ceilings, an open and airy floor plan, and operable walls that extend the experience outdoors—creating a fluid connection between interior and exterior seating. Beneath it, the lower level becomes a whiskey speakeasy, offering an intimate, atmospheric retreat that contrasts beautifully with the light-filled wine bar above.
Selective structural modifications allowed the team to remove inadequate portions of the second floor while maintaining the building’s historic integrity. Inside, an eclectic mix of furnishings, generous volumes, and a striking rear-wall mural by a local artist define the ambiance and craft a memorable guest experience.
Above it all, the upper-level modern residential unit brings renewed life and purpose to the building, illustrating how thoughtful, contemporary design can honor a structure’s heritage while elevating it for today’s use.
